Custom photo label gift jar from Savu Birra with a personalized example label

A jar of seasoning is a useful gift. A big jar of seasoning with the cook's own face on the label is a gift people keep on the counter and talk about. Our Custom Photo Label Gift Jar takes one of six of our largest bottles and wraps it in a label built around a photo you upload, a theme you pick, and a short name or message. This guide walks through how it works, which seasoning to choose for which cook, how to pick a photo that prints well, and when to order so it arrives on time.

Shop the seasoning

Choose from six large jars: Kansas City Meat Rub (26.7 oz), Bread Dipping Seasoning (14.3 oz), Original Veggie (23.4 oz), Roasted Veggie (16.2 oz), Prime Rib Rub (24 oz) or Honey Garlic Wing (25.2 oz). Each label is designed and printed in Hubbardston, Massachusetts.

How it works, step by step

  1. Pick the seasoning. Choose one of six large jars on the product page. The price of the personalized jar is listed with each size.
  2. Pick a theme. The label themes are Birthday, Grill Master, Holiday, Thank You, Dad and Mom.
  3. Add a name or short message. You have up to 25 characters, so think "Big Mike's Rub" or "Happy 40th, Dana" rather than a full sentence.
  4. Upload a photo. Use the upload button on the product page. A clear photo of one face works best (tips below).
  5. Confirm permission. Check the box confirming you have permission to use the photo.
  6. We design and print it. Each label is designed and printed in Hubbardston, Massachusetts. Jars ship in 3 to 5 days, and delivery usually takes 5 to 7 days after shipping.

The example labels on the product page show fictional people, so you can see what each theme looks like before you order.

Which jar for which cook

All six seasonings come in our largest bottle size, so the gift lasts through many cookouts. Match the blend to how the person cooks.

Seasoning Size What's in it A good fit for
Kansas City Meat Rub 26.7 oz sea salt, paprika, sugar, brown sugar, onion, celery salt, chiles, garlic, mustard, cumin the backyard pitmaster: ribs, pork shoulder, brisket, chicken
Prime Rib Rub 24 oz sea salt, smoked paprika, garlic, onion, black pepper, ancho chile the holiday roast host and steak lover
Honey Garlic Wing 25.2 oz granulated honey, brown sugar, sea salt, garlic, New Mexico red chile, sugar, black pepper the game-day wing maker
Bread Dipping 14.3 oz garlic, sea salt, onion, black pepper, crushed red pepper, oregano, basil, parsley, thyme, rosemary the host who always has bread and olive oil out
Original Veggie 23.4 oz sea salt, garlic, onion, sugar, black pepper, thyme, basil, turmeric the everyday cook who roasts a tray of vegetables every week
Roasted Veggie 16.2 oz garlic, onion, basil, thyme, oregano, smoked paprika (no salt, no sugar) someone watching salt who still wants big flavor

If you're not sure, think about what the person cooks most often. Grillers tend to go through rub fastest, so Kansas City Meat Rub or Prime Rib Rub is a safe pick. For someone who cooks for a crowd on holidays, Bread Dipping is an easy appetizer they'll use every time guests come over.

Choosing a photo that prints well

The label is small compared to a phone screen, so a photo that looks great on your phone can look busy on a jar. A few things help:

  • One face, close up. Head and shoulders works better than a full-body shot or a group photo.
  • Good light. Daylight from a window or outdoors is best. Avoid dark restaurant photos and heavy shadows across the face.
  • Sharp focus. Zoom in on your phone before you upload. If the eyes look soft, pick another photo.
  • Simple background. A plain wall, sky or backyard is easier to work with than a crowded room.
  • Fun beats formal. A photo of someone mid-laugh at the grill, wearing an apron or holding tongs, fits the Grill Master theme perfectly.
  • Use your own photo. Only upload a photo you have permission to use; the checkbox on the product page confirms this.

Writing the 25-character message

Short messages read best on a label. Some ideas that fit:

Theme Message ideas
Grill Master "Big Mike's BBQ Rub", "Pitmaster Pete", "Chef Dad's Secret"
Birthday "Happy 50th, Linda!", "Sam's Birthday Rub"
Holiday "Merry Christmas, Nana", "From the Smith Kitchen"
Thank You "Thanks, Coach!", "Best Neighbor Ever"
Dad "Dad's Famous Ribs", "World's Best Grill Dad"
Mom "Mom's Sunday Roast", "Mama's Veggie Mix"

Count spaces and punctuation when you count characters. A quick check: "Dad's Famous Ribs" is 17 characters, so you have room to spare.

Ordering for the holidays

Because each label is printed to order, plan ahead. Jars ship in 3 to 5 days and delivery usually takes 5 to 7 days after that, so allow about two weeks from order to doorstep. For Christmas delivery, order by December 12. Photo label jars work all year, too: birthdays, Father's Day, Mother's Day, retirements, housewarmings, and thank-you gifts for coaches, teachers and neighbors.

If it's too late for a printed label, a Savu Birra digital gift card arrives by email and lets the cook choose.

How to use the seasonings inside

A few starting points for the seasoning inside:

  • Kansas City Meat Rub: about 1 tablespoon per pound of ribs or pork shoulder, applied an hour or more before smoking. See smoking ribs using the 3-2-1 method.
  • Prime Rib Rub: about 1 tablespoon per 2 pounds of roast, the day before. See how to season a prime rib roast.
  • Honey Garlic Wing: toss 2 to 3 tablespoons with 2 pounds of dry wings before baking or air frying.
  • Bread Dipping: stir 1 tablespoon into 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil and let it sit 10 minutes.
  • Original or Roasted Veggie: toss 1 to 2 teaspoons per pound of vegetables with oil before roasting at 425°F.

Common questions

Can I see what the label will look like?

The product page shows example labels for each theme, made with fictional people, so you can see the layout and style before you order.

What photo formats can I upload?

Upload a standard photo from your phone or computer. The sharper and better lit the photo, the better the printed label.

Is this only a holiday gift?

No. Photo label jars are available all year for any occasion. The December 12 date only applies if you want the jar by Christmas.

Can I order more than one?

Yes. Add each jar to your cart separately with its own photo, theme and message. It's an easy way to make matching gifts for a family or a team.

Will the seasoning taste the same as a regular jar?

Yes. It's the same seasoning in the same large bottle; only the label is personalized.
